The flood situation remains critical, particularly in Bavaria.
In Bavaria, the flood situation continues to be tense even though water levels are somewhat lowering. In Passau, both the Danube and Inn rivers reached their highest points on Tuesday evening, but the levels have yet to significantly decrease. A vast portion of the city center is still submerged. It's expected that clean-up efforts can start as early as Friday.
The Bavarian State Environment Agency's flood control center said all Danube gauges from Donauwörth to Passau were at the highest alert level on Tuesday evening, with peak water levels that lasted. The floodwaters in the Danube tributaries were, however, on the decline. Nevertheless, because of the "long runoff times" of the water, the flood situation in the affected areas stayed worrisome.
Over the past few days, both Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg received heavy and sustained rains, resulting in devastating floods. Five fatalities have been reported, and there's an undetermined number of missing individuals. On Tuesday, a 32-year-old woman was saved in Neu-Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, after being stranded in a tree for over 60 hours.
In Baden-Württemberg, the flood control center signaled a relaxation and primarily decreasing water levels on Wednesday morning. Nevertheless, at the Speyer gauge, there were still mildly increasing trends.
