Upcoming regional political contests - The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is currently in the lead in Thuringia and Saxony.
With state elections in Thuringia and Saxony just a week away, a survey by the Institute Insa for "Bild" newspaper indicates that the AfD (Alternative for Germany) party is in front in both regions. As per the researchers, no sole dominant governments can be established without the collaboration of the BSW (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht) or the AfD at the moment.
In Saxony, the AfD is presently rated at 32%, surpassing the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) at 30%. The BSW secures 15%, SPD (Social Democratic Party) gains 6%, and the Greens tug at 5%. Regrettably, the Left party will fall shy of re-entering the Dresden state parliament with their 4%. The Free Voters stand at 3%, while the FDP (Free Democratic Party) is at 5%. Only a majority without the AfD can be achieved with the BSW.
In Thuringia, the AfD is in the lead with 30%, with CDU (Christian Democratic Union) trailing behind at 21% and BSW at 20%. The Left party holds 14%, and SPD lies at 6%. Both FDP and the Greens are below the threshold of 3% needed to get back into the state parliament. The remaining parties share 3% of the votes.
As per Insa, if direct minister-president elections were in place, both incumbent rulers would hold a significant lead before the polls, as per the survey. In Saxony, 45% of participants would cast their votes for Michael Kretschmer (CDU). In Thuringia, Bodo Ramelow (Left) would garner 33%, while AfD's front-runner Björn Höcke would receive 18%.
In Saxony, the excitement for the upcoming party events might be heightened, given the close race between Michael Kretschmer from the CDU and Björn Höcke from the AfD. In Thuringia, the Left party might consider organizing a farewell party, as they seem unlikely to re-enter the state parliament.
