Tightened Border Control Regulations - The European Union temporary halts negotiations pertaining to the Green Paper on Migration.
The Alliance has labeled the negotiations with the federal administration regarding a collaborative revamp of immigration policies as unsuccessful. CDU/CSU and the coalition's delegates failed to reach a consensus during the discussions held in Berlin on Tuesday, according to Thorsten Frei, the Alliance's parliamentary liaison officer. Consequently, Frei mentioned that these discussions in this particular format will not carry on further: "It's just unnecessary," he stated.
The CDU representative criticized the government for not taking the Alliance's plea for refusing asylum seekers at Germany's borders into consideration in their propositions. Frei remarked, "What the traffic light coalition has proposed will not result in more refusals, not even one."
The Alliance remains receptive to discussions on migration
Frei extended an invitation to the government for further dialogues focusing on strengthening immigration policies. "We won't retreat into a fit of pique," he said. However, the structure of the Tuesday discussions will not be resumed. "We had hoped for something significant with this format – alas, it did not transpire," he lamented.
Hoffmann, the parliamentary liaison officer of the CSU in the Bundestag and a participant in these discussions, was more forthright in his sentiments. "I feel deceived regarding this discussion," Hoffmann declared. The government proposed various measures – "yet, absolutely no refusals," as the Alliance had requested.
Frei emphasized the importance of continuing discussions on migration, stating, "Despite the unsuccessful format of the Tuesday talks, we remain open to dialogues focused on migration." Despite the lack of progress in refusing asylum seekers at Germany's borders, Frei maintains hope for future collaborative efforts, expressing, "The Alliance did not migrate away from the commitment to work together on immigration policies."
