Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor from the SPD, reassured Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine's President, of Germany's persistent solidarity during a call. As reported by Steffen Hebestreit, the government spokesperson, Scholz discussed the military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine with Zelensky on Ukraine's Independence Day.

Scholz underscored Germany's steadfast and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine in the face of Russia's persistent aggression, according to Hebestreit.

Zelensky appreciated Germany's consistent military backing, specifically in the area of air defense. Both leaders emphasized the significance of the Swiss summit process and its continuation, with Hebestreit mentioning the Ukraine conference scheduled in Switzerland in mid-June. The involvement of Global South countries is particularly noteworthy, as noted by Hebestreit. Scholz and Zelensky also agreed to keep their communication lines open.

Ukraine commemorated its 33rd Independence Day on Saturday. Zelensky attended the official celebrations at Sophia Square in Kyiv. He was accompanied by Andrzej Duda, the Polish President, and Ingrida Šimonytė, the Lithuanian Prime Minister. Both Poland and Lithuania are significant allies of Ukraine.
