The EU asylum agency predicts a 24% decrease in asylum applications in Germany by 2024.

In Europe, as per EU asylum agency statistics, Germany ranked among countries like Norway and Sweden with approximately 170,600 asylum requests by September's end. This was a reduction of 24% compared to the same period previous year. Around 30% of these requests originated from Syria, with additional 15% from Afghanistan, and 13% from Turkey.

Germany continued to lead in asylum applications in the EU, along with Norway and Sweden. Spain secured the second spot with around 123,000 applications, followed by Italy with close to 117,000.

Italy witnessed an increase of 25% in applications compared to the previous year, and Greece experienced a 39% rise. The least number of applications were recorded in Hungary (21), Slovakia (121), and Lithuania (284). However, Austria saw a significant drop of 57% in applications, down to almost 19,000.

The weekly newspaper "Welt am Sonntag" sourced these figures from an EU Commission report on migration dated October 3. Brussels voiced caution about an anticipated refugee wave from Lebanon to the EU. The report warned that with almost 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the critical humanitarian state of the entire population, there's a high likelihood of further individuals fleeing the border.

Despite flight halt between Beirut and various locations, migrants found alternative routes such as via Cairo and Damascus airports or land and sea passages through Syria and Turkey, as reported by the newspaper. As of September 29, close to 345,000 individuals were displaced within Lebanon due to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, while around 100,000 individuals had fled to Syria.

Germany maintained its position as one of the top countries with the highest number of asylum requests in the EU, alongside Norway and Sweden. Despite a reduction in requests, Germany still received approximately 170,600 applications by September's end.
