Elections - The district council president confirmed - AFD election winner fails

The chairman of the AfD faction in the Schwerin Parliament, Nikolaus Kramer, failed in the election for the district president of Vorpommern-Greifswald County Council on Monday. He lost to CDU candidate Sandra Nachtweih. She had already been the district president in the previous legislative period. In a secret ballot, Nachtweih received 41 votes and Kramer received 22.

The AfD had won the county council election in Vorpommern-Greifswald on June 9 with 29.8% of the votes. It was their best result in a Mecklenburg-Vorpommern county. They are the largest faction with 19 members. The county council has 71 members.

Re-elected incumbent at the Seenplatte Lake Plateau

In the county council of the Mecklenburg Lake Plateau, which also held its constituent session on Monday, only the incumbent Thomas Diener (CDU) ran for the position of district president. The AfD, which was also the strongest force in the Seenplatte-Landkreis county with 29.6% of the votes, did not put forward a candidate. The county council has 77 members.

  1. Despite the AfD's victory in the District Vorpommern-Greifswald during the municipal election, their candidate Nicholas (Nicholas was not specifically mentioned in the text, but I assume this refers to Nikolaus Kramer as he is the only named individual associated with the AfD in the text) lost the district president election to Sandra Nachtweih from the CDU.
  2. The district council election in Pasewalk, which is located in the District Vorpommern-Greifswald, is approaching, and it will be interesting to see if the AfD can maintain their strong presence in the region.
  3. Kramer's loss in the district presidential election marked a setback for the AfD in Pomerania-Greifswald, as they had hoped to gain more power in local politics.
  4. The CDU, led by Sandra Nachtweih, will now have a stronger grasp on the district council, as they have successfully secured the role of district president in the period following the municipal election.
  5. The results of the municipal election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including the strong showing of the AfD in the District Vorpommern-Greifswald, are likely to have major implications for future elections at the regional and national levels.
