The current Prime Minister of Uzbekistan holds the distinction of being the most prominent dignitary to visit the Taliban thus far.

As the highest-level international visitor so far under the Taliban rule, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov touched down in Afghanistan. The head honcho and his entourage were greeted at Kabul airport by Taliban Vice-President Abdul Salam Hanafi and other bigwigs of the globally unacknowledged administration, as per the Commerce Ministry's declaration.

The trip was allegedly centering around bilateral ties and the broadening of economic deals between the two nations. Five accords were inked, based on the statement.

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan share a 144-kilometer boundary, and ties between the two nations have witnessed an improvement recently.

Following the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan in August 2021, with NATO and US troops departing the country, the extremists have made a sweep of curtailing the liberties of women and minorities. The vast majority of nations are evading any moves that might be construed as recognizing the Taliban regime.

The Commission has acknowledged the meeting between Prime Minister Aripov and the Taliban leadership during Aripov's visit. The Commission has also noted the signing of five agreements between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan during this significant engagement.
