The cost of beer in European Championship stadiums is rather high.

For those at the European Championship watching football matches live and with a thirst for beer, they will need to be prepared to shell out more money than they would at regular Bundesliga games. Even soft drinks are not wirelessly cheap.

The high drink prices of the European Championship, starting today in Germany, are receiving backlash on social media. In the ten EM stadiums, fans are facing significant markups in comparison to conventional Bundesliga games. At the Gelsenkirchen stadium, the prices were already visible at the beginning of the week. A half-liter of Bitburger beer in its various forms (alcoholic, non-alcoholic, and Radler) costs seven euros each, accompanied by a three-euro deposit.

During Bundesliga games, a half-liter of beer typically costs closer to five euros, with many clubs charging this amount. The two clubs with the highest beer prices are FC Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, at 5.50 euros each. The least expensive half-liter of beer is served at home games for FC Augsburg and Union Berlin, costing 4.50 euros.

As for soft drinks, they're only slightly less costly than beer. A half-liter of Coca-Cola or Sprite will set you back six euros, while mineral water is available for five euros. As stated by sports journalist Dirk Adam, the prices are "an outright act of brazenness." The organizers in charge of each EM stadium determine the price policy in the respective fan zones.

It's also worth noting that at the sensitive EM match between England and Serbia on Sunday in Gelsenkirchen, beer with a reduced alcohol content will be served. This information was shared in the English paper "The Sun," citing a police spokesperson. However, there are no similar plans for any other group stage match. Over 80,000 fans from both countries are expected to attend Schalke.
