- The collapse of the supermarket roof - the expert in charge
Following the collapse of a supermarket roof in the Schleswig-Holstein town of Ratzeburg, the cause remains unknown. The public prosecutor's office in Lübeck has now commissioned an expert to investigate, a spokeswoman for the Ratzeburg police directorate said. The results are still pending, and investigations are ongoing.
Witnesses reported that the roof began to collapse on Tuesday afternoon with a loud cracking sound. Customers and staff were immediately evacuated from the building. The police currently estimate that there are twelve minor injuries due to the partial collapse of the roof.
However, according to police reports, the supermarket roof in the district town of the Herzogtum Lauenburg district did not completely collapse. Due to the remaining part of the roof being highly unstable, the building cannot be entered. No people were found under the rubble. "Thankfully, everyone managed to get out in time," a police spokeswoman said.
Drone Search
To find people under the rubble, rescue workers used drones and dogs to search the building, as reported by the police. A large contingent of rescue workers was deployed at the scene. In addition to the police and fire brigade, the district's emergency services and the German Red Cross were also present.
Some of the twelve minor injuries were taken to hospital, while others were treated at the scene. The emergency call was received by the police on Tuesday at around 5:10 pm.
The investigation into the cause of the supermarket roof collapse in Ratzeburg is crucial to prevent future incidents. Despite using drones and dogs for a thorough search, no people were found trapped under the debris.
