The Chinese Business Association strongly denounced levies on electric vehicles originating from China.
The EU's Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCCEU) has fiercely criticized the proposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. In a statement released on Tuesday in Brussels, the Chamber voiced its "significant displeasure" and "firm objection" to the European Commission's protective measures.
There's a lack of substantiated proof that Chinese electric vehicles negatively impact European manufacturers, the Chamber pointed out. This declaration from Brussels, it argued, will intensify trade disputes between China and the EU and send a "very unfavorable" message for international collaboration and the progress of eco-friendly technologies.
The European Commission had earlier concluded its comprehensive probe into the tariffs, which were initially proposed in early July. The Commission intends to set the tariff on Chinese electric vehicles between 17% and 36.3%. However, automakers such as Volkswagen and their Chinese collaborators will face a lower tariff of 21.3% when importing electric vehicles into the EU. American manufacturer Tesla, on the other hand, secured the lowest tariff rate of 9.0%.
The EU's Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCCEU) represents businesses with significant operations in China. These companies may be negatively affected by the proposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
