Brandenburgs CDU Landes- and Fraktionschef Jan Redmann was stopped by the police while riding an electric scooter with a 1.3 promille alcohol content. Redmann, the CDU's candidate for the state election, admitted to making a mistake. He also announced that he would continue to run as the Spitzenkandidate.

"I will bear the consequences of my mistake," Redmann said. He had already voluntarily surrendered his driver's license. Redmann also referred to a transparent handling of the incident. A procedure regarding this is currently underway. The CDU politician announced that he "will continue to campaign uninterrupted and fight for our ideas for Brandenburg." He considered himself responsible for engaging more intensively with the CDU.

Redmann regrets evening drive with friends

According to his own statements, the Landes- and Fraktionschef was stopped by the police in Potsdam on his way home from an evening with friends on a Thursday with an electric scooter during a routine control. The officers asked him for an alcohol test. The quick test result was 1.3 promille alcohol content in breath.

"I am running for the office of Minister-President," Redmann wrote in a statement. I am someone "who is willing and able to take responsibility, but also someone who is not free of errors and is accountable for them, even if it is painful for me personally." I ask the women and men of Brandenburg to evaluate me based on my political ideas and solutions for the future of the state, not due to a mistake that pains me the most.
