The CDU leader is ordered to pay 8000 euros; Lappen is excluded from the payment.
Jan Redmann, the CDU's chairman in Brandenburg, has been hit with a hefty fine for his drunken e-scooter ride back in July. The district court of Potsdam decided that he should pay 8,000 euros, which translates to 25 daily fines of 320 euros each, for his reckless behavior while under the influence. As a result, his driving privileges have been suspended for an extra six months.
Redmann has taken responsibility for his actions and accepted the consequences of his choice to drink and ride, even though the legal limit for alcohol in Germany is 1.1 per mille. He was apprehended by police during his late-night trip on an e-scooter back to his apartment in Potsdam, where a breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content to be approximately 1.3 per mille.
Redmann, who is also the leader of the CDU parliamentary group in Brandenburg's state parliament and the CDU's leading candidate for the state election on September 22, acknowledged his mistake and urged the public to evaluate him based on his political ideologies and plans for the future of the state, rather than this misstep.
Currently, the CDU is trailing the SPD and the AfD in polls, with 20% and 24% support, respectively. Redmann is hopeful to succeed Dietmar Woidke of the SPD as the new minister president after the upcoming election.
Redmann was fined 8,000 euros for riding an e-scooter while under the influence, as stated in his license terms, which he violated on that night. Despite the fine and suspension, Redmann continues to lead the CDU parliamentary group and is the party's leading candidate for the state election, emphasizing the importance of focusing on his political standpoints instead of his recent actions.
