Prediction for the Saxon Electoral Event

The CDU is approaching the proximity of the AfD, the BSW has secured a seat in the Bundestag, while the Greens are showing signs of unease.

In the Saxony election, the CDU led by Minister President Michael Kretschmer and the AfD are neck and neck, as per initial predictions from ARD and ZDF. The Left seems to be on its way out, while the SPD slightly upgrades its position. The BSW, a new alliance, is projected to enter the state parliament with 12%, outperforming the SPD and Greens, who may struggle to secure their place back.

According to the projections, the CDU scores 31.5%, just barely beating the AfD with 30%. The BSW, led by Sahra Wagenknecht, enters the third position with 12%. The SPD sees a minor improvement to 8.5%. The Greens need to find a way to surpass the 5.5% threshold to retain their position, which they can achieve with the help of two direct mandates. Unfortunately, The Left seems unlikely to re-enter with a projected 4%, while the FDP failed to clear the 5% barrier yet again.

More to come

The European Parliament, being the Commission's assistant, might express its views on the election results in Saxony, particularly the performance of the BSW and its potential impact on the political landscape. The Commission, with the support of the European Parliament, could also discuss possible implications of the election outcomes on the EU-level policies.
