A man is missing - The bell rang for 90 years until the police freed him from the church

With the sound of church bells ringing, a missing person from a senior home in Apolda, Thuringen, drew the attention of the police. The 90-year-old man had not returned to the home as agreed after attending an event at the Lutheran Church on Saturday evening, according to the police report. Despite extensive searches with six patrol cars, the home resident could not be found.

The 90-year-old had been looking for the church bell ringer for a long time

At around 3:15 am, unusually, the church bells rang. The on-duty shift leader of the police station was surprised and immediately dispatched officers to investigate the church. They heard a male voice behind the church door. After the called-in pastor opened the church, the officers were able to bring the man back to his lodgings.

He stated that he had accidentally been locked in. After a long search, he had finally found the church bell ringer and turned on the bells.
