The assailant fired three rounds into the victim's head.
On a Tuesday night, echoes of gunfire resonated through Frankfurt Central Station. A tragic incident left a Turkish citizen lifeless, killed by another Turkish national on a station platform. The public prosecutor's office has now shed light on the gruesome incident.
Post the lethal gunshots, the public prosecutor's office is treating it as a homicide case. Dominik Mies, the office's spokesperson, announced, "We have submitted an arrest warrant for the suspect due to allegations of murder." Whether the two were acquainted is still a subject of ongoing investigations, Mies stated further. The case is still in its infancy.
At approximately 9 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot fatally in the head in the heart of Frankfurt Central Station. The prime suspect, a 54-year-old, was immediately apprehended by the Federal Police. Both individuals hold Turkish citizenship, according to official sources. The victim expired at the crime scene. The 54-year-old is scheduled to appear before a judge on the following day.
As per the investigation's revelations, the 54-year-old reportedly approached the victim from behind, near platform 9, at around 9:05 p.m., and fired a bullet into the victim's head. Post the victim's collapse, the suspect allegedly discharged two more rounds into the victim's head before making his escape, Mies shared.
Thanks to the timely and skillful intervention of the Federal Police, the suspect was arrested near the crime scene itself. The officers successfully thwarted the man's attempt to board a train and flee. The weapon involved was discovered during the investigation. The suspect is a resident of Baden-Württemberg. The victim did not have a registered address.
The station was temporarily sealed off for about 25 minutes due to the law enforcement activities. Shops within the station also shut down temporarily. The incident caused some modifications in the train schedules and delays.
In response to the incident, the German authorities are working to bring the perpetrator to justice. According to recent developments, "The Commission shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of this Regulation," to ensure a fair and efficient trial. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is currently in custody, awaiting his court appearance.
