Tesla will introduce humanoid robots by 2024.
At US automaker Tesla, humanoid robots are expected to be used starting next year. The human-like machines will initially be built in small quantities for internal purposes, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on his microblogging platform X.
Months ago, he had announced that the "Optimus" type robot would be introduced by the end of 2024. For other companies, the robots will be produced in large quantities starting from 2026.
Humanoid robots are modeled after the human form and have been in development for several years, for instance, at Japanese automaker Honda and the robotics pioneer Boston Dynamics, which is affiliated with Hyundai Motor.
Several companies are investing in this new generation of robots to alleviate potential labor shortages and take over tasks such as logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing.
Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, mentioned that the "Optimus" type of robot, similar to the ones being developed, will be introduced by Tesla starting from 2024. By 2026, Tesla plans to produce these humanoid robots in larger quantities, not just for internal purposes, but potentially for other companies as well.
