Danger of attack - Terrorist arrests in France shortly before the Olympic Games
Few weeks before the beginning of the Olympic Games in Paris, arrests related to possible terror plans have taken place at two different locations. According to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin in an interview with BFMTV, these were two distinct alleged threats.
Several people have been arrested who were possibly planning and preparing terrorist attacks. "They are being handed over to the judicial authorities right now," Darmanin said. He did not provide details about the arrests or the nature of the terror plans. The Summer Olympics are scheduled to start on July 26.
Darmanin stated that the terrorist threat in France would remain "extremely high," especially before the Olympics. France raised the highest terror alert level in March. At the end of May, investigators thwarted plans for an Islamist terrorist attack on a football match during the Olympics.
