Theodor-Heuss-Square - Temple Association imports through propalestrinian Vigil

The Israeli Temple Association in Hamburg is alarmed about the continuation of the Palestinian protest camp near the University and has demanded an immediate ban of the camp on Theodor-Heuss-Platz opposite Dammtor railway station.

"We demand that Hamburg politics and the responsible authorities take immediate action to put an end to this intolerable situation," declared the 1817-founded association, which is considered the mother organization of world Reform Judaism. It is incomprehensible how such a camp can be allowed to exist next to a site that was used by the Nazis for the deportation of Jews.

Temple Association: Toleration of the Camp is a fatal signal

The tolerance and indirect support of antisemitic and anti-Israeli activities at such a site of historical significance is a fatal signal and must be stopped immediately. The Israeli Temple Association has no understanding for the stance of Hamburg politics towards the camp that has existed since early May.

The Basic Law guarantees freedom of assembly, "but this should not disregard the sensitivity and special responsibility towards historical sites and the atrocities that have taken place there." It is a moral duty to protect such places and prevent their misuse for politically charged and offensive purposes.

The Palestinian protest camp has existed since early May and, according to a decision by the assembly authority, can remain until the end of July. In addition, participants have been allowed to use the adjacent Moorweide temporarily for larger events with over 100 participants.

The assembly authority followed a court ruling from the end of last month in this matter. Additionally, 30 tents instead of ten are now allowed for the Mahnaesh on Theodor-Heuss-Platz. The camp is monitored by the Constitutional Protection Agency.

Assembly is under the motto "Keep your hands off Rafah"

The assembly is under the motto "Keep your hands off Rafah". Among those who called for the camp on Instagram were the group "Students for Palestine HH" (Students for Palestine) and the Palestinian group "Thawra". The background is the massacre with over 1,200 deaths that terrorists of Hamas and other groups committed in Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel responded with massive air raids and a ground offensive.

  1. Despite the Israeli Temple Association's concerns, the Palestinian protest camp near the University in Hamburg has been allowed to continue, as per a decision by the assembly authority, and can stay until the end of July.
  2. The assembly authority's decision is in line with a court ruling from the end of last month, which also allowed for 30 tents instead of ten at the camp, now known as the Mahnaesh.
  3. The Palestinian protest camp has garnered support from various groups, including "Students for Palestine HH" and the Palestinian group "Thawra", who have called for its existence on Instagram, inspired by the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel with over 1,200 deaths, which was committed by terrorists from Hamas and other groups.
  4. The Israeli Temple Association is perplexed by Hamburg politics' stance towards the camp, viewing its tolerance as a "fatal signal" and a disregard for the historical significance of the site, which was once used by the Nazis for the deportation of Jews.
