Missing person case in Upper Bavaria - Teacher disappeared - 30 clues after "Aktenzeichen XY"

After the investigative TV show "Aktenzeichen XY... Unresolved" received 30 new tips in the case of a missing teacher from Upper Bavaria, a police spokesperson in Ingolstadt stated, "No concrete 'hot lead' has emerged yet."

The investigators have been searching for the teacher for years. Helmut Strigl, a pensioned educator, was reported missing by a cousin in November 2021. However, someone had seen him even longer ago: The last time he was seen was on June 25, 2018, at his residence in Rennertshofen near Neuburg an der Donau.

He lived in a former farmhouse that belonged to his parents and kept few social contacts. After he was reported missing, the police searched his completely rundown property but found no trace of him.

"He left no traces"

"He left no traces," said Silke Poller, the investigating criminal chief commissioner of the Ingolstadt Police in the ZDF-show by Rudi Cerne. She believes Strigl may have become a victim of a crime. A few months before his disappearance, the teacher had retired - and his pension payments continued to go into his account, but were "transferred to other accounts," as Poller stated. For this, his signature on transfer orders was forged.

Strigl's driver sentenced

A man who worked for Strigl was already sentenced for forgery and is currently serving a prison sentence, according to Poller. He had worked as a driver for the teacher for years after the latter had to surrender his driver's license due to a 1.6 promille alcohol level while driving his car. The man, along with an acquaintance, had also raided a room in Strigl's house. The police investigations focus, among other things, on the teacher's car, a blue BMW. The officers want to know who saw the car between June 2018 and June 2019 and where.

The missing teacher's case has gained significant attention in Bavaria, with local media frequently covering the story. The investigation, now in its sixth year, has been centered in Ingolstadt and the surrounding Upper Bavaria region, including Neuburg on the Danube.

Despite the TV show's recent flood of tips, the police have not found any substantial leads yet. The case file number is XY, and it remains an unresolved mystery.

The retired teacher, Helmut Strigl, was last seen in his rundown farmhouse in Rennertshofen, near Neuburg an der Donau, on June 25, 2018. His withdrawal of pension money being transferred to other accounts after his disappearance has raised suspicions of a possible crime.

The police are also looking into a connection between Strigl's disappearance and a man who had worked as his driver. This individual has served a prison sentence for forgery and had also accessed a room in Strigl's house before his disappearance.

The police are urging anyone who may have seen Strigl's blue BMW between June 2018 and June 2019 to come forward with information. Any potential witness could hold key details that could help resolve this long-standing missing person case.

The TV show's new tips and ongoing police investigations have kept hope alive for a resolution to the teacher's mysterious disappearance. The case continues to be a topic of interest in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, and beyond.
