She announces her intention to cast her vote for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in the forthcoming presidential election. She concluded her post with a nod to Trump's running mate J.D. Vance, a derogatory remark that referred to her as a "childless cat lady."
Taylor Swift is a popular figure in the US. She consistently churns out hits and sets records at award shows. Swift holds tremendous sway over her fans and boasts a following of approximately 283 million on Instagram. She recently ranked fifth on Forbes' list of the world's most influential women. Harris' endorsement could be a decisive factor in the tight race against the Republican presidential candidate, Trump.
Over Half of Americans Identify as Swifties
Given her large fan base, a 2023 survey revealed that about 53% of American adults considered themselves Swift fans. Swift's fans, often referred to as Swifties, are notorious for their unwavering loyalty. Much like the artist herself, the majority of Swift's American fans hail from small towns or reside in rural areas. Approximately half of them are female and fall under the millennial demographic (born between 1981 and 1996). Around three-quarters are White. Swift exerts influence over a significant voting demographic.
For years, Swift had been cautious about making political statements. However, in 2018, she made headlines when she criticized the Republican Senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn. When Swift encouraged her fans to vote in September 2023, over 35,000 new voter registrations were reported in a short time frame. In 2020, Swift endorsed the eventual winner, Joe Biden.
