Taxi Driver Assault Investigation: Spanish Law Enforcement Examines Alleged Perpetrators from Germany

Four individuals from Germany are under scrutiny for severe accusations. It's alleged that, while under the influence of alcohol, they viciously assaulted a taxi driver in Mallorca to the point of hospitalization. Furthermore, they tried to influence Spanish law enforcement officials with bribes. The case has added complexity due to the involvement of officers from Essen's police department. This incident is causing a ripple effect in political circles.

As per a media report, three men from Essen, aged 24, 26, and 27, are among the suspects, while the identity of the fourth individual remains undisclosed. The police have advised that only the judiciary is authorized to share information. Unfortunately, the judiciary failed to respond to requests for details.

The victim shared his eye-opening account to journalists, stating that the attackers claimed to be German police officers. Confirming this, the Essen police department acknowledged the presence of their colleagues in the incident. However, it remains unclear whether these officers are being considered as witnesses or suspects in Spain. The spokeswoman also couldn't provide an exact number of colleagues involved. Reports suggest that several officers from Essen were holidaying together in Mallorca. All the offenders have since returned to Germany.

The accusations against these Germans are weighty, as per Spanish media reports. In a drunken state, it's claimed that they brutally attacked a 71-year-old Mallorcan taxi driver on holiday, before attempting to bribe their Spanish counterparts.

Victim expresses fear

Quoting the police protocol, the German-language "Mallorca Magazin" reported that the assault was perpetrated by the 26-year-old due to a missing phone. Remarkably, this phone was later discovered in the tourists' belongings.

The victim, José María P., shared his chilling ordeal in the "Mallorca Zeitung". He said, "I thought they were going to kill me. I'm still not sure how my body managed to survive the attack." The victim was admitted to the hospital with a fractured arm, two broken ribs, black eyes, numerous injuries, and bruises. He expressed gratitude towards the arrival of the police, as he believed they saved his life.

Politicians engage in sensitive discussion

In response, the SPD in the Düsseldorf state parliament has requested a detailed report from the interior committee of the state parliament. However, it remains unclear whether the state government will have substantial information to share. The police have yet to hear from Spanish authorities, according to their own statement.

This matter was also brought up in the Spanish parliament, as per "Mallorca Zeitung" reports. Members of the left-wing Sumar party have posed a parliamentary question to the government. They sought answers about the Spanish public prosecutor's office's potential request for the aggressors' extradition or detention due to the severity of the injuries, as well as the government's demand for disciplinary action against the attackers. The suspicions revolve around the possibility of these Germans receiving preferential treatment due to their police officer status.

The German individuals' alleged actions have sparked a call for justice, as they face severe accusations of assault and attempting to bribe Spanish law enforcement officials. The SPD in Düsseldorf's state parliament is demanding a detailed report, expressing concerns about potential preferential treatment due to their police officer status.
