Controversial Social Media Personality - Tate-Bruder cannot leave Romania now
The British-American influencer Andrew Tate (37) and his brother Tristan (36) are now unable to leave Romania. They are charged with forcing young women in Romania to participate in commercially distributed sex videos. A appeals court in Bucharest overturned a decision two weeks ago that allowed the Tate brothers to travel within the European Union (EU) area. The prosecution had appealed this decision. The latest ruling is binding.
It is still unclear when the main trial against the Tate brothers will begin. The indictment has been ready for over a year. Romanian courts are on summer break until the end of August.
The prosecution accuses the Tates and two alleged accomplices of human trafficking and rape. They are also accused of manipulating the girls into becoming dependent on them, so that they would film sex videos.
Andrew Tate made a name for himself with misogynistic statements on social media platforms worldwide. He showcased a lavish lifestyle and reached millions of teenagers and young men as a result.
The Tate brothers and the alleged accomplices were first arrested on December 30, 2022 in Bucharest. Three months later, the measure was changed to house arrest. Since August 2023, the accused have been free but with the condition that they cannot leave Romania.
