High-rise project - Switzerland: Three dead and several injured in scaffolding collapse
At the collapse of a construction crane in Switzerland, three workers have died. According to the police reports, in the incident in Prilly near Lausanne, eight other people were injured, four of whom were severely. The accident occurred at the construction site of a wooden high-rise building, which is part of a shopping complex. The building is named "Malley Phare" and is almost 60 meters high, according to the police.
Witnesses told the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA that a hoist had collapsed and the entire crane had been carried away on the north side of the building. The authorities made no initial statements on the cause and progression of the accident.
The police cordoned off the area around the accident site extensively. Fire departments and special companies were in action to secure the remaining cranes on the three other sides of the 19-story building.
The police are investigating the cause of the crane collapse at the construction site of the "Malley Phare" building in Prilly, Switzerland. Due to the incident, the police have also requested the assistance of building equipment specialists to assess the safety of the remaining construction equipment. The authorities in Lausanne have announced plans to build a temporary memorial for the three workers who sadly lost their lives during the accident.
