For children - Swimming courses in Bavaria are rare
Places in Swimming courses for children are often hard to get in Bavaria. "The waiting lists are still full," said Alexander Gallitz from the German Swimming Instructors Association in response to a query. Some colleagues have waiting times of up to a year. A reason for this is the shortage of volunteer swimming instructors. Associations like Wasserwacht Bayern are also aware of the problem and cite insufficient swimming pools as another cause. A new concept aims to improve the situation. It's called "Learning to swim at the lake" and will be presented on Friday in Karlsfeld near Munich.
For those who cannot secure a course place, Wasserwacht offers a "DIY swimming course." According to a spokesperson, parents can use the brochure to teach their children to swim or acclimate them to the water before a swimming course. "Getting used to the water, dipping your head underwater, or getting accustomed to water sprays in the eyes creates a good foundation for learning to swim." One should start in shallow waters. Additionally, there are instructional videos available.
