Swedish youths arrested after shooting in Denmark
In Denmark, Swedish teenagers are currently being frequently arrested for attempted homicide. According to the news agency Ritzau, three Swedish teens, aged 16 and 17, allegedly attempted to shoot people in Denmark between last Wednesday and this Monday. Two of these incidents occurred in Copenhagen, and one in the city of Kolding, approximately 80 kilometers from the German border. All three boys were remanded in custody.
Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard told the TV station DR on Tuesday evening that he is spending all his time preventing "Swedish conditions" in Denmark. Hummelgaard was referring to the rampant gang crime in Sweden. He announced that he would intensify cooperation with the Swedish police, including sending Danish police officers to the Scandinavian neighbor.
Sweden has been grappling with criminal gangs for several years, which primarily finance themselves through drug trafficking and fraud. As a result of gang conflicts, there are frequent shootings and bombings, with bystanders often getting caught in the crossfire. Among the perpetrators and victims, there are increasingly minors, some as young as 14.
The imposed imprisonment for the three Swedish teens accused of attempted homicide in Denmark is a topic of concern. The Swedish Justice Ministry is under pressure to address the rising crime rates and improve its efforts to combat gang violence, particularly in light of minor children being involved in these criminal activities.
