Swedish Politician Performs Anti-Immigrant Song
A politician from the conservative Sweden Democrats party in Sweden has stepped down after crooning a bigoted tune at a European Union voting bash. The party confirmed the news on Monday, as reported by news agency TT. Swedish representative David Lang belted out the offensive lyric "Foreigners out" to the party anthem "L'amour toujours" at the event on Sunday night. The lyrics can be heard in a tape by Swedish publication "Expressen."
Lately, there have been multiple occurrences where xenophobic rhymes have been recited to Europe's Eurodance song by Gigi D'Agostino. In Germany, for instance, a video sparked controversy depicting youth in a bar on Sylt hooting "Germany for the Germans, Foreigners out" to the track.
In the recording of Sweden Democrats' EU parliament gathering, "L'amour toujours" plays in the background as a "Expressen" reporter talks to a party official. The discussion is interrupted when David Lang lets loose with "Foreigners out, Foreigners out." Following that, Lang is overheard saying "Oh shoot" and asking if the journalist had captured it.
The head of the Sweden Democrats' parliamentary committee, Linda Lindberg, announced in a statement from the party that she had requested Lang to vacate his position. Lang supposedly stated he had adopted the verse from social media. "Now I realize that the text was sung in a scenario I had not previously understood thoroughly," Lang said in the release. He apologized profusely if he had upset anyone.
