Swedish musician C. Gambino was fatally shot.
Recently, Gothenburg, Sweden, experienced the murder of renowned Swedish rapper C. Gambino, also known as "the masked rapper." C. Gambino was only 26 years old and had just been named Sweden's Hip-Hop artist of the year in May. Just a few months later, on August 28th, he was involved in a violent shootout that occurred in a parking garage on the island of Hisingen. One of the photos from the crime scene depicted several bullet holes in a door in the garage.
The 26-year-old, whose real name was Karar Ali Salem Ramadan, was later taken to a hospital, where he passed away due to his injuries. The murder is linked to a conflict between gangs, and C. Gambino was said to be acquainted with the police. The police are now investigating the case, but no arrests have been made yet.
C. Gambino was known for his hit track, "Sista Gang," which was released in May 2022. The track had amassed a whopping one million streams per month on Spotify, showcasing his significant presence in Sweden's hip-hop scene. Petter Hallen, a Swedish rap expert, expressed his condolences, stating that C. Gambino was "one of the biggest in Swedish hip-hop." He further added that the murder is a "heavy blow for the rap scene in Gothenburg and all of Sweden." It is particularly heart-wrenching because C. Gambino had recently moved away from criminal activities and dedicated more time to expressing his feelings. This tragic event has shaken the Swedish music community.
It is important to note that this is not an isolated incident, as only a few months prior, another Swedish rapper, Einer, was also tragically killed in a similar fashion. These crimes are all believed to be connected to organized crime. Sweden has been grappling with a substantial rise in gang-related violence for years, with rival gangs often clashing over control of the drug and weapons trade. Consequently, the country has witnessed various instances of shootings and explosions.
