A maneuvering-incompetent ferry, which was on its way to Sweden, was towed into the port of Rostock-Warnemuende by several tugs today afternoon. The ferry reportedly set anchor again after several hours, according to a spokesperson from the Waterways and Shipping Authority. The ship had therefore been on its way from Rostock to Swedish Trelleborg and had suffered a motor failure.

According to a spokeswoman for the city of Rostock, there were initially no reports of injuries on board. Previously, the NDR had reported this. Passengers had reportedly contacted the broadcaster by phone about a power outage. The ferry had reportedly been stranded around eleven kilometers off Rostock-Warnemuende. The harbor captain reported to the NDR that there were 453 passengers on board the stricken ship.

The ferry in question hails from Germany, specifically from the city of Rostock. The incident prompted an emergency response by the local authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
