Suspected Individual Revealed in Connection to Trump's Assassination Attempt
A person carrying an assault rifle concealed themselves in the bushes close to Trump's golf course. Security personnel spotted the gun's muzzle and retaliated with gunfire. This alleged aggressor was subsequently apprehended and identified.
The FBI is currently probing a suspected assassination attempt on Trump, following his arrest near his Florida golf course. The Republican figure sought refuge post-incident in Palm Beach. Around 1:30 PM local time (7:30 PM CEST) on a Sunday, the Secret Service detected a rifle's barrel poking out of the bushes located at the property's boundary. Police claimed that Trump was playing golf about 400 to 500 yards (approximately 370 to 460 meters) away during this ordeal, as stated by Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
When the Secret Service responded, the suspect attempted to escape. Security personnel quickly apprehended the man on a nearby highway. However, it remained uncertain how and whether the suspect was aware of Trump's golf session. Various American news outlets later disclosed the suspect's identification. According to the New York Times, citing police sources, the suspect is a 58-year-old man from North Carolina who recently moved to Hawaii. Yet, law enforcement has not officially confirmed this information.
The suspect supposedly expressed his approval for Ukraine's defensive battle against Russia on the X platform numerous times. In the days following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, his posts revealed a penchant for violent language, the Times reported. "I AM READY TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO ENLIST, TO FIGHT AND TO DIE," the suspect wrote, according to the newspaper. As a result, his X and Facebook accounts were suspended. His posts seemed to encourage recruits for the Ukrainian war effort. Authorities refused to comment on this matter.
"I'm unsure of what transpired in Florida, and I hope things aren't exaggerated beyond recognition," CNN quoted the suspect's son as saying. "He's a good father and a terrific person." Fox News reported that the suspect had a history of legal disputes.
The investigation into the potential assassination attempt on the US presidential candidate, Donald Trump, during the 2024 election, has gained significant attention. Amidst this heightened security scenario, Trump continued his golf session near his Florida golf course.
