Suspect in the Valeriia case arrives in Saxony
It is still unclear why exactly nine-year-old Valeria was killed. The police are hoping for insights from the suspect. The suspect in the case of the murdered nine-year-old Valeria from the Saxon town of Döbeln has been extradited to Germany. Czech police handed over the 36-year-old man at the border crossing in Petrovice to their German colleagues. The man is now being brought to Chemnitz and presented to an investigating judge.
"Then the arrest warrant will be read to him and he can speak out about the accusation," explained Prosecutor General Ingrid Burghart in advance. The Moldavian man is suspected of having killed the nine-year-old girl in early June. There are no indications of sexual abuse, according to the investigators.
Valeria went missing on June 3 in the middle Saxon town of Döbeln on her way to school. Her body was found after more than a week of intensive search in the undergrowth of a forest. A national and European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old man. According to media reports, he is the ex-boyfriend of Valeria's mother.
Czech police arrested the man on June 14 in a restaurant in Prague. The exact motivation for why the girl died is still unclear. The prosecution has not yet made a statement on how the girl died. Valeria had fled with her mother to Germany from Ukraine before the war in 2022 and attended school in Döbeln. She is now buried in her old hometown of Pawlohrad in the east of Ukraine.
