- Supporters of Northern Stream will maintain silence, as per Tusk's suggestion.
Within a few days of the announcement of an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian tied to the Baltic Sea pipeline bombings, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk voiced his opinions on Nord Stream. "To the architects and financiers of Nord Stream 1 and 2: Your only action now should be to apologize and remain silent," Tusk posted on the digital platform X.
A series of blasts targeted and disrupted the two gas pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and 2, towards the end of September 2022. The identity and masterminds behind these attacks have been a topic of debate for quite some time. The Russian-German project was not without political controversy, especially amidst Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Poland had always opposed the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Poland has consistently been against Nord Stream.
The head of Poland's national security office, Jacek Siewiera, responded to Tusk's post on X by stating, "Unfortunate news for those addressed: There's a strong agreement within Poland on this matter." He also added a winking emoji.
It was revealed on Wednesday that the Polish prosecutor's office had been issued a European arrest warrant by the German federal prosecutor's office for the suspect who had recently been in Poland but subsequently returned to his homeland. This led to questions in Germany regarding the extent of Poland's cooperation in the investigation into the sabotage.
