Criminality - Successful search after fatal shootings on former boxer
Approximately four months after the fatal shootings of the former boxing professional Besar Nimani in the inner city of Bielefeld, investigators from the North Rhine-Westphalia Criminal Police arrested a suspect in Belgium. According to a joint statement from the police and the prosecutor, the 33-year-old Bielefeld resident was apprehended on a Monday with the assistance of Belgian authorities. A warrant was out for his arrest. A second suspect, also a 33-year-old from Bielefeld, is still being sought publicly with his full name and photo.
Both 33-year-olds are suspected of shooting a 38-year-old man before a business in a pedestrian zone. The man had parked his car near the crime scene and was walking towards the later crime scene on foot. Special units searched their residences during the night of the crime, but the two could not be found.
According to the autopsy report, the 38-year-old died from numerous gunshot wounds. The investigators made no comments on possible motives for the crime due to the ongoing search for the second suspect.
Statement from Police and Prosecutor's Office regarding the second suspect
The police and prosecutor's office in North Rhine-Westphalia have issued a public appeal for information about the second suspect, who is also a 33-year-old man from Bielefeld. The search for him continues in Germany and beyond, as a joint operation with the Belgian authorities was successful in apprehending the first suspect. Despite the significant reduction in criminality in Germany over the past decade, instances of gun violence remain a concern for law enforcement. The police in Bielefeld and Germany as a whole remain committed to bringing all suspects involved in this case to justice.
