weather - Strong rain and thunder expected in the Southwest

The German Weather Service predicts local thunderstorms and heavy rain for Baden-Württemberg on Friday. In particular, in the afternoon, there may be heavy rain with up to 40 liters per square meter in a short time, according to the DWD. "A thunderstorm area with higher instability is moving towards Baden-Württemberg from the south," a spokesperson said.

Gusts of wind up to 90 kilometers per hour and hail up to two centimeters in diameter are expected. In the Black Forest, temperatures up to 20 degrees are forecasted, while the highest temperatures will be between 23 and 26 degrees.

The thunderstorm potential will shift from the south to the north during the course of Friday. It is not possible to precisely predict where and when the thunderstorms will occur. "Forecasts – except for a few hours beforehand – are difficult to pinpoint to a specific location for shower and thunderstorm situations," explained the spokesperson.

Rain with up to 20 liters per square meter in a short time and small hail, as well as wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour, are possible even in the night leading up to Friday.

Friday will be calmer for Samstag and Sunday.

Already on Thursday, there is expected to be rain with some thunderstorms. The sun may make an appearance at times, while it will also be cloudy. Temperatures will reach highs of 24 to 30 degrees. A generally weak wind is anticipated, but it could become stormy during thunderstorms.

After the thunderstorms on Friday, it is expected to be mostly dry on Saturday and Sunday. The weather will calm down. The DWD anticipates a light wind on Saturday, occasional showers, and limited cloud cover. Temperatures on Sunday will then rise again, with 22 degrees in the mountains and up to 27 degrees near the Upper Rhine, Neckar, and Tauber.

  1. Despite the forecast of calmer weather on Sunday, the German Weather Service, DWD, warns of possible remnants of the thunderstorms experienced in Baden-Württemberg, potentially bringing rain to the Southwest.
  2. Residents of Baden-Württemberg, including cities like Stuttgart and the High Black Forest, should be prepared for unpredictable weather conditions on Friday due to the approaching thunderstorm area.
  3. Even though heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted for the south, the DWD reminds everyone that it's challenging to pinpoint these weather events to a specific location, making it hard to predict exactly when or where thunderstorms will occur in Baden-Württemberg.
  4. On Friday, the thunderstorms may cause rainfall up to 40 liters per square meter, alongside gusts of wind up to 90 kilometers per hour and hail as large as two centimeters in diameter, affecting areas like the High Black Forest.
  5. As the thunderstorm potential moves from the south to the north, residents in the southwest of Germany, including Baden-Württemberg, should remain vigilant and keep updated on the latest forecasts from the DWD for potential thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day.
