**German politicians will continue to lead important committees in the European Parliament. The former Lower Saxony Minister President David McAllister (CDU) was confirmed as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, as the parliament announced. The FDP-MP Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann will lead the Defense Sub-Committee in the future. She was elected by acclamation, as she was the only candidate.

Bernd Lange (SPD) remains Chairman of the International Trade Committee. Niclas Herbst (CDU) sits in front of the Budget Control Committee, and the Greens-MP Anna Cavazzini remains at the helm of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.

Strack-Zimmermann was particularly controversial. The heads of German Union parties had previously expressed indignation that Strack-Zimmermann and the other four MPs of the FDP group did not support the re-election of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Strack-Zimmermann condemned the criticism as undemocratic and described the "claims of the Union" as "dangerous".

Strack-Zimmermann benefited from this, as no other parties put forward a claim for the chairmanship. Therefore, polite applause for her election was received. Strack-Zimmermann had led the Defense Committee in the German Bundestag before her election as an MEP in June.

The committees in the EU Parliament examine and amend legislative proposals. In addition, they draft reports that are presented in the plenary session.**

  1. Despite facing criticism from German Union party leaders for not supporting Ursula von der Leyen's re-election as EU Commission President, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann was still elected as the Chairperson of the Defense Sub-Committee in the European Parliament by acclamation, as she was the only contender.
  2. As the only candidate, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, the FDP-MP from Germany, was elected by acclamation to lead the Defense Sub-Committee in the European Parliament's European Defence Committees, following her strong leadership in the German Bundestag's Defense Committee before her election as an MEP in June.
  3. Despite the controversy surrounding her, namely her decision not to support Ursula von der Leyen's re-election as EU Commission President, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann became the Chairperson of the Defense Sub-Committee in the European Parliament's European Defence Committees, further demonstrating her influence within German and European politics.
