Stoltenberg has reportedly assumed the leadership role in the Munich Security Conference.
It's rumored that NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will step down from his post in 2025 to lead the Munich Security Conference (MSC). According to sources such as "Politico," this information comes from security and government circles. The MSC Foundation's council is said to be preparing a decision regarding this matter. The MSC has chosen to stay silent on these reports.
Stoltenberg is set to pass the NATO Secretary-General position to former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on October 1. Upon doing so, he would take over from Christoph Heusgen at the MSC.
The annual Munich Security Conference features heads of state, government, and other prominent figures discussing global security matters. This year, over 180 high-ranking government representatives participated. The Ukraine war and Middle East conflict were among the main topics, with Heusgen, the former German ambassador to the UN, assuming the chairmanship in 2023.
The MSC Foundation's council is reportedly considering the following decision: to appoint Jens Stoltenberg as its new leader once he steps down from NATO. After taking over the MSC, Stoltenberg would follow in Christoph Heusgen's footsteps as the conference's chairperson.
