Police operation - State Secretary: Investigation into Taser use underway
The investigation into the first effective use of a Taser by the police in Schleswig-Holstein, according to Interior State Secretary Magdalena Finke, is not yet completed. Two policemen were injured by an electric shock during the use on June 28 against a man in Ahrensburg. However, they are both doing well, Finke stated in the Interior and Legal Affairs Committee of the Landtag.
The used Distance Electroshock Weapon (DEIG) is being technically examined. Finke stated that the equipment should not be called into question fundamentally. Why two shots and three electric shocks were fired is being investigated. The injured officer has not been questioned about this yet.
The police were called to Ahrensburg (Stormarn district) by a man because another man had attacked him with a knife and a club, and had also assaulted other bystanders, according to the police.
The man reportedly showed aggression towards the policemen as well, so they used the Taser. With its help, the suspect was rendered incapacitated. The policemen were treated in a hospital. The suspect remained unharmed and was admitted to a psychiatric special clinic.
Policemen and policewomen in Schleswig-Holstein have been using Tasers for approximately two years.
