Starmer is not shaking up one personnel issue

Anyone who becomes Prime Minister in Downing Street must have a certain amount of tolerance. For years, the "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office" has ruled there, and will continue to do so despite the latest power shift.

Even if the Conservatives have moved in and new residents have taken up residence in Downing Street, new Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer is not disturbed by this. Larry remains "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office," the top mouse hunter.

The position is even listed on the official website of the British government. The animal has lived there for 13.5 years and is long considered the secret ruler. Starmer is the sixth prime minister to live with Larry.

Larry has lived in Downing Street longer than any prime minister since the end of the 19th century, and only four prime ministers have served longer. David Cameron brought the cat to the government building in 2011 to solve the rat problem. Primarily, however, the animal keeps waiting journalists busy, such as during the hunt for pigeons. As a public figure, Larry naturally also has an - unofficial - account on the platform X. With approximately 840,000 followers, "@Number10Cat" keeps many government members entertained.

The previous prime ministers all came with a dog - Rishi Sunak had Nova, Boris Johnson's dog is named Dilyn - but there could be a furry competition under Starmer. Starmer's family already has a cat named Jojo. The kingdom is eagerly awaiting whether the two cats will get along. And at least as exciting would be whether Larry will continue to endure his new co-resident in Downing Street.

  1. In the upcoming British House of Commons election, Keir Starmer, as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain, will navigate the political landscape of Downing Street, sharing the space with Larry, the long-reigning "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office."
  2. Despite the change in political leadership, with Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson's tenures being replaced by Starmer's, the British House of Commons election results have not affected Larry's position as the top mouse hunter in Downing Street.
  3. As conversations surrounding the British House of Commons election and new leadership unfold in London, the potential interaction between Starmer's pet cat Jojo and Larry, the resident mouser of Downing Street, becomes a topic of interest among the populace of Great Britain.
