In the looming face-off between President Biden and former President Trump, it's the Democrats who are raking in the dough, thanks in part to A-list celebrities like Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Barbra Streisand.
At a fundraiser in LA, Joe Biden, flanked by Jimmy Kimmel and Barack Obama, reportedly collected a staggering 28 million US Dollars (around 26 million Euros). This event, allegedly, broke the record for the largest fundraising event in Democratic Party history.
Before the show even started, the campaign team spilled the beans about the impressive fundraising figures. Biden took a dig at the Supreme Court, expressing concern over its pronounced rightward shift under Trump's presidency. He added that if Trump gets re-elected, the fear is that he'll appoint more judges, further tilting the balance. Obama chimed in, stating that certain behaviors that once would'veDisqualified someone have become the norm in the US. Some values and norms, he argued, should still be respected.
Joining the star-studded event were actors Jason Bateman and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, in addition to Roberts, Clooney, and Streisand.
Biden jet-setted over from the G7 Summit in Italy to attend the LA event. In April, he'd already managed to gather over 26 million US Dollars at a major fundraiser in New York with help from Obama and Bill Clinton. Come November, Biden's eyeing a return to the White House.
His opponent, of course, is none other than his predecessor, Donald Trump. Both candidates are trying to one-up each other with flashy fundraisers. Each campaign team keeps announcing new records, with donations in the millions. Elections in the US are nothing if not expensive. To secure victory, small donations are key, and donors are vital.
