SPD election campaign term disrupted by Pistorius in Leipzig

A SPD campaign event with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Leipzig was disrupted on Monday evening. A police spokesperson stated that approximately 50 people had gathered at the event location in response to an inquiry. It was reportedly loud enough to prevent the SPD event from taking place inside.

Within the event hall, there were also disturbances, and three individuals were expelled by the event security. The demonstrations against the SPD event were reportedly registered by the "Creating Peace Without Weapons" group and the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).

Invited to the event was the SPD's top candidate for the state elections, Petra Köpping. "We don't hide," Köpping wrote on the platform X. "Unfortunately, there are people who want to prevent such discussions with all means. But we won't let that get to us." The majority of attendees desired a serious debate, which was ultimately successful, according to Köpping.

Despite the loud protests outside, the SPD-election campaign event in Leipzig continued inside with some disruptions. The protests were led by groups like "Creating Peace Without Weapons" and the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), and the loudness was so significant that it affected Pistorius' speech as Defense Minister.
