Budget crisis - SPD circles: Budget for 2024 will no longer be adopted this year

The budget for 2024 can no longer be passed this year. This was announced by Katja Mast, First Parliamentary Secretary of the SPD parliamentary group, in a message to MPs. The message is available to stern. The "Bild" newspaper first reported the news.

According to the report, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) "have not yet been able to bring their intensive talks to a conclusion". The party committees had agreed on clear prerequisites for this, which Scholz had already addressed in his government statement. The Chancellor is "confident that a result can be achieved in the coming days". Mast continues: "Although we have done everything we can from our side, the budget for 2024 can no longer be adopted in time this year. LG Katja"

Following the Federal Constitutional Court's budget ruling, there is a shortfall of around 17 billion euros in next year's budget. The coalition leaders have been discussing in small groups for days how the gap can be closed.

The announcement of the delayed budget adoption for 2024 was made by Katja Mast, a prominent member of the SPD parliamentary group. The news was initially reported in the "Bild" newspaper, with stern later obtaining a message from Mast. Despite intensive talks between Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck, and Finance Minister Christian Lindler, they have not yet reached a consensus. The SPD parliamentary group, led by Mast, has done everything in its power to ensure the budget's adoption, but due to time constraints, it is no longer possible this year. The household budgets of many people may be affected by this budget crisis in the Bundestag.
