Spanish politician gunned down in Madrid
The Spanish politician and co-founder of the right-wing populist party Vox, Alejo Vidal-Quadras, has been shot in the street in Madrid, according to media reports.
An unknown person shot the 78-year-old in the face, the state TV station RTVE and other media reported unanimously, citing police sources.
The politician, who was also head of the conservative People's Party (PP) in Catalonia before founding Vox in 2013, was taken to hospital in a conscious state. The police are searching for a motorcyclist. Further details and a possible motive for the crime were not initially revealed.
