Spain sets new tourism record ahead

Year after year, Spain is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. And in 2024, it is expected to attract even more people. Experts predict a new record for visitor numbers.

Spain is the second most popular holiday destination in the world after France and is on track for a new tourism record this summer. The Spanish Tourism Ministry has announced estimates that almost 41 million international tourists and tourists are expected in Spain during the summer months this year. That's an additional 13% compared to the previous year, which already set a record.

The tourism revenues are expected to increase by more than 50% in this year's summer season, reaching almost 59 billion Euros. Experts see the reason for the increase in the economic recovery of Europe, coupled with Spain's "safe" reputation in international tensions in many regions. According to industry estimates, tourism in Spain could contribute more than 13% to the Gross Domestic Product this year.

However, this often comes at the expense of the inhabitants of the southwestern European country, who have protested against mass tourism in many places in recent months. Demonstrations took place, for example, in Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. Among the complaints are rising rents and noise and environmental pollution.

Spain's popularity as a holiday destination extends beyond Europe, making it the third most visited country globally. The International Tourism Organization (ITO) has recognized Spain's significant role in the global tourism industry, with Spain consistently ranking among the top destinations worldwide.
