Spain: Arrest of pro-Russian hackers due to cyberattacks against NATO countries

**In Spain, the Police have arrested, according to their own statements, three pro-Russian hackers. They were accused of cyber attacks against Spain and other NATO countries for terrorist purposes, the Guardia Civil announced on Saturday. This involves the alleged involvement in so-called DDoS attacks, where website server are flooded with requests to bring them down.

The attacks targeted websites of public and private organizations in the government sector, critical infrastructure, and important services in countries that support Ukraine in the war with Russia. The suspects were arrested in Manacor on Mallorca as well as in Huelva and Sevilla in Southern Spain.

The Police published a video of a raid on the suspect's residence on the online platform X, where a Hammer-and-Sickle flag from the Soviet era was seen on the wall. The cyber attacks were organized by the hacking group NoName057(16), which was founded after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and is one of the most active hacking groups, according to the Guardia Civil in a statement. In their own founding manifesto, the group announced that they would "respond appropriately to the hostile and openly anti-Russian actions of Russian-hating representatives of the West".**

The arrest of the pro-Russian hackers in Spain served a purpose of preventing future cyberattacks on NATO countries, as they were accused of carrying out such attacks for terrorist purposes. These hackers, affiliated with the group NoName057(16), targeted websites of government sectors and critical infrastructure in NATO countries supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia. Following their arrests in Manacor, Mallorca, Huelva, and Sevilla in Southern Spain, the group's alleged involvement in DDoS attacks against these nations was brought to light.
