Upcoming National Elections in 2025 - South persists in its exclusion of the black-green coalition.
CSU head Markus Söder dismisses the idea of a black-green coalition following the 2025 nationwide vote. In his post on platform X, Söder critiqued the current "traffic light" government, stating, "The Green party is the ideological backbone of this administration, and their continued involvement is not an option for us." Söder went on to chastise Green Economy Minister Robert Habeck, contending that his handled nuclear power phase-out and heating law policies made him the worst economic minister the country has ever seen. Previous reports from "Bild" back up this claim.
In response, Green parliamentary leader Katharina Dröge did not entirely rule out an alliance with the Union, according to the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ). Similarly, Green Party leader Omid Nouripour suggested an openness to new political arrangements. Söder, however, regarded this as the Greens' "plain embarrassing" courting of the Union. "For the CSU, it is unequivocal: No black-green coalition after the upcoming election!"
After the critical remarks from CSU head Markus Söder, the Green Party's leadership showed some flexibility, with Katharina Dröge not completely rejecting an alliance with the Union and Omid Nouripour expressing openness to new political arrangements. However, Söder firmly rejected the idea of a black-green coalition after the 2025 Federal election, referring to it as a "plain embarrassment" for the CSU.
