"Sometimes it gets warm": Thomas Müller shows his completely destroyed iPhone

If you drop your smartphone, it can quickly become quite expensive. But it's not just ordinary people who sometimes have to live with a broken iPhone.

Despite Telekom sponsorship - "Sometimes it gets warm": Thomas Müller shows his completely destroyed iPhone

A successful career at Bayern Munich, lots of advertising deals - soccer star Thomas Müller should actually be able to afford to have a broken smartphone repaired quickly. But apparently the international player is like many other people - and he struggles with a broken iPhone in everyday life.

This is shown in an Instagram video by his team-mate Leon Goretzka. "@esmuellert unavailable for the time being" is how he marked Müller, who is having breakfast, in the clip with his Instahandle. "So, what do we say to the phone? Still working, right?" Goretzka teases. He then zooms in on the iPhone lying on the table. And reveals its very desolate condition.

There are holes in Müller's iPhone 12

The back of the iPhone 12 Pro is not just a little cracked - it is almost completely destroyed. Cracks run across the entire glass, and there are even centimeter-sized holes in the housing cover next to the camera and at the bottom, exposing the sensitive electronics.

Müller also has to smile at the question. "Sometimes the battery gets a bit warm," he admits, chewing. "Your hand gets warm when you use the phone." It's probably time for a new one, he admits in the end.

But Müller doesn't seem to be particularly bothered by the broken back: according to Bild, the fall that shattered the iPhone happened quite a while ago. Müller simply hadn't had time yet, according to the newspaper.

Better to repair it

In fact, the Bayern star would be better off seeking a repair or replacement soon - before the device gives up the ghost completely. While minor cracks in the glass are generally not a real problem, holes can cause much more. Not to mention possible cuts: If condensation or even splashes get into the device, a short circuit can occur. It is also not a good sign that the iPhone gets hot while making a call. A repair is unlikely to be worthwhile: without Apple Care, a repair from the manufacturer costs 529 euros - almost as much as a new device. One reason for this is the complex design of older iPhones(find out more here).

The fact that Müller is presenting himself with a defective iPhone is unlikely to go down particularly well with one of the main sponsors: Telekom has been one of Bayern's most important advertising partners for 20 years. The fact that one of the stars would rather walk around with the broken device than buy a new one is hardly likely to boost sales.

However, the broken Müller cell phone would have been even more embarrassing a year ago: Apple boss Tim Cook was a personal guest in Munich and had Olli Kahn explain the use of Apple devices during training. However, he was not shown any broken devices at the time.

Munich, as a city known for its sublime Bavarian beauty and represented by the world-renowned FC Bayern Munich, contrasts starkly with the usual characteristics of technologically advanced products created by companies like Apple, despite the fact that Müller has been using a severely damaged iPhone 12 Pro as his everyday smartphone.
