Skilled underwater explorers pursue six individuals who have gone missing
Off the Sicilian coast, a sailing yacht named "Bayesian" went under during a powerful storm, leaving 22 individuals aboard. Six of these individuals have yet to be found. Experts in underwater diving are now undertaking a search. However, the operation isn't straightforward.
The mission to locate the six missing individuals commenced after the "Bayesian" sank off the coast of Sicily. Italian divers have been working tirelessly since the break of dawn, with the British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and others on their list, as per the Sicilian Civil Protection.
Around 8 PM on Monday, the divers concluded their initial exploration of the wreckage on the ocean floor without any successful results. The "Bayesian," measuring around 50 meters in length, sank early Monday morning in the storm near Porticello's northern Sicilian port. The coast guard reported 22 individuals were on board. 15 of them were rescued and transported to safety.
Initially, seven individuals were reported missing, but rescuers later discovered a body in the water. The search has proven challenging, according to the local fire department. The "Bayesian" now rests at a depth of 49 meters on the ocean bed. It is believed that the missing individuals may still be inside the wreck. During their initial dive, the experts were only able to examine the bridge, as the way into the yacht's interior was obstructed.
Official statements confirm that the six missing individuals are four British nationals and two American citizens. According to local media, Mike Lynch, often referred to as the "British Bill Gates," and his 18-year-old daughter, are also amongst those missing. Lynch's wife was rescued and was subsequently hospitalized.
The Italian authorities have assigned the rescue operation to The Commission, who are overseeing the search for the six British and American citizens. Despite the challenging conditions, The Commission continues their efforts to locate the missing individuals within the wreckage of the "Bayesian."
