In Thuringia, there is growing interest among young people in vocational training in the craft sector. The number of apprenticeship contracts completed in the first half of the year was 3.5 percent higher than in the previous year, according to the Chamber of Crafts Erfurt. A total of 835 young people decided to pursue a craft profession in the three chamber districts since the beginning of the year.

The profession of Automotive Mechatronics is particularly popular, with 210 apprentices choosing this field. However, in the field of Glass, Paper, ceramics, and other crafts, only one apprenticeship contract has been signed so far.

There are still 6100 training places available in Thuringia.

In the Erfurt Chamber district alone, there are 1264 training companies. "Whether this trend continues until the end of the year, we cannot currently predict. However, we are optimistic. Based on past experience, only about half of all training contracts are signed in the first half of the year," explains Thomas Malcherek, the managing director of the Chamber of Crafts Erfurt.

According to data from the Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, a total of 6800 applicants registered for a training position in Thuringia from October 2023 to the end of this year. Of these, 2400 had not signed a contract by June. A total of more than 11,800 training places were available, of which 6100 were still to be allocated, according to the Regional Directorate.

  1. Young individuals in Thuringia showing a surge of interest in craft sector apprenticeships have completed 3.5% more contracts this year, as reported by the Chamber of Crafts Erfurt in Erfurt.
  2. If the current trend continues, as suggested by Thomas Malcherek, the managing director of the Chamber of Crafts Erfurt, the number of apprenticeship contracts signed in the Erfurt district might reach half of the total by the year's end.
  3. In the three chamber districts of Thuringia, a notable 835 young individuals have selected to commence their careers through craft apprenticeships since the beginning of the year, with the most popular field being Automotive Mechatronics.
  4. Aspiring craftsmen in Thuringia have a choice of 6100 training places still available, with the Chamber of Crafts Erfurt aiming to fill these vacancies to support career entry into the craft profession.
