Sixth fatality found in the canton of Ticino
After the heavy downpours in Switzerland, a sixth victim has been found. The police in the canton of Tessin announced on Wednesday that a body was recovered from the Maggia river by helicopter. In the same area, a death had occurred the previous day.
In Tessin, torrential rainfall reminiscent of a flood occurred on Saturday evening, causing landslides and floods. Three German pensioners between the ages of 73 and 76 died in a landslide. Another German man died in the neighboring canton of Valais, surprised by the water masses in the basement of a hotel.
Following the tragic events in Valais, yet another fatality was reported in Ticino, bringing the total number of deaths in Switzerland due to the recent storms to six. The body was discovered in the Maggia river on Wednesday, adding to the sad tally from the weekend's storms in the canton of Ticino.
