Werlte - Six people critically injured in car accident
At a heavy accident in the Emsland district, eight people have been injured, six of them are in critical condition. According to a police spokesperson, the accident occurred in the morning on a country road between Werlte and Soegel. The 39-year-old driver of a minibus is believed to have wanted to overtake a car.
The 64-year-old driver of an oncoming passenger car tried to avoid a collision, but lost control and collided with the car. The minibus collided frontally with another car, an SUV.
Airlifted to the hospital
The driver and three passengers of the minibus, aged 47, 40, and 38, were critically injured. The 43-year-old driver of the car was lightly injured, but his 56-year-old passenger sustained critical injuries, as did the 46-year-old driver of the SUV.
In addition to the six critically injured accident victims, there was also one seriously and one lightly injured person.
The accident victims were reportedly taken to hospitals in Meppen, Loeningen, Bremen, Papenburg, Oldenburg, Lingen, and Quakenbruck. Four doctors, two helicopters, and 60 fire department personnel were at the scene.
