Deployment in Mittelfranken - Shots from Asylum Shelter? - Suspect to be held in Pre-Trial Detention

After a large police operation due to gunshot sounds at an Asylum Shelter in Mittelfranken, a suspect is supposed to appear before an Investigative Judge today. The 23-year-old is already known to the police, said Police Spokesperson Michael Konrad. The two other young men are also free again. All three are Asylum Applicants.

A Special Operations Team of the Police had surrounded and searched the shelter in Uffenheim near the border with Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday, after witnesses reported that shots had been fired from a rooftop window. Police forces also reported hearing gunshot sounds from the building.

The officers found no weapon during the search. No bullet holes or projectiles were discovered, said Konrad. The three suspects have remained silent about the incident so far. "It's a bit mysterious." There is no evidence of a fight or violent crime, Konrad added. The police are now investigating for a weapons law violation.

The suspect, allegedly involved in the gunshot incident at the Asylum Shelter in Middle Franconia, has prior interactions with the police in Middle Franconia. The incident occurred in Uffenheim, close to the border with Baden-Württemberg. The three men, including the suspect, are originally from Bavaria, seeking asylum accommodation. Despite the police operation and witnesses' reports, no criminality related to violence or weapons law violation has been established yet.
